While you prepare for the SAT, it is necessary to know the SAT Test structure as much as the syllabus. Only when you know the topics and sections of the test, the duration, the score system etc will you be able to prepare for it systematically. The test is comprised of 3 sections

The first section which is included in the SAT Test structure is the Critical Reading which is divided into two parts. The Sentence Equivalence part has around 19 multiple choice questions and the Reading Comprehension part is based on answering questions based on a passage given. There are around 48 questions in this part. The total section is allotted 70 minutes and counts for a maximum of 800 marks. Reading and understanding the passage carefully and developing a good vocabulary will be of great help to score high in this section.

The SAT Test Structure introduced the Writing section in 2005. This section also holds 800 marks in total. In this section you will have to write an essay on a given topic within 25 minutes and the essay counts for 30% marks of the total section. The other 70% marks are allotted to multiple choice questions which will test you on your grammar. There are questions based on Error Identification, Sentence improvement and paragraph improvement.

The third part is the Math section. The SAT Test structure is designed according to a basic syllabus. Hence revising everything that you have learned in school is sufficient. The total time allocated for this section is 70 minutes. The first part contains 20 questions on problem solving, second part has 8 questions on grid-in and 10 on problem solving and last part has 16 questions on problem solving. All questions have multiple choices and are based on topics like absolute value, functional notation, exponential growth etc.
