The SAT Critical Reading consists of a part of Reading comprehension. This includes
reading passages and answering questions based on them. There are a total of 4 passages
in the Reading Comprehension part that are to be answered and the length of each
passage may differ. The topics are also of a general nature and are drafted so that
any student can understand these irrespective of the subject they have chosen. There
are around 10 questions per passage arranged in the order of their difficulty but
each question has a similar marking system.
The Reading Comprehension part accounts for a little more than 50% of the marks
allocated to the Sat Critical Reading Section. Thus if this section is attempted
properly, your score will see notable improvement. Also, this segment is specially
designed to assess your ability to comprehend. Just reading a passage is not enough,
understanding the context and the overall meaning o it is important. But you do
not have a lot of time for this. Hence, you have to quickly read the paragraph and
understand the underlying concept too.
The other part of the SAT Critical Reading is Sentence completion which requires
proficiency in English and a comfortable vocabulary. There is SAT vocabulary list
which contains some very impressive and commonly used words which students need
to be familiar with. This preparation can start a couple of months before the test.
Sample tests will also give expose you to new words. Answering some sentence completion
questions will register the difficult words in your mind too. There are around 19
questions in this category.
The SAT Critical Reading section is allocated around 75 minutes in total. There
is also an unscored experimental section in the SAT which may include questions
from any category. However since it is not specified as experimental you will have
to answer all questions with the same readiness
