Problem solving is one of the parts of the Quantitative Reasoning section of the
GRE revised General Test. This section involves multiple choice questions on algebra,
geometry or data interpretation. There are about 5 choices provided for each of
the 10 questions and students are expected to select only one correct answer. Math
is a subject that scares many students. However the trick to securing good marks
in Math is by practicing it as much as one can. Hence there are many problem solving
sample tests that can be solved for practice and confidence.
In the Problem Solving part there are many questions which may have many relevant
answers. Such questions have up to 9 choices and you are expected to choose as many
correct options possible. You have to read the question properly, follow a systematic
method of solving and compute the correct answer with accuracy and speed. Attempting
to solve as many sample tests as you can will help you improve your speed which
is crucial in this Math section.
The Problem Solving part has around 10 questions which are very simple to solve.
You will be given a rough paper to solve the equations separately and then tick
the final answer. These questions are based on reasoning and interpretation too.
Hence one should not waste time in unnecessary methods of solving them. But do make
sure that you have followed the instructions for the questions and selected one
or more alternatives as directed.
Generally the use of calculator is allowed in the Problem Solving section and is
mentioned in the notes in the beginning. Your sample papers will make you aware
of the general notes that appear in the beginning of the paper as instructions.
Keeping these in mind will enable you to save time as you may just glance through
them while appearing for the real test.
