Statement Of Purpose

GRE Essay is one more thing that you have to prepare yourself for, to pass the test. The GRE essay is a part of the Analytical Test which is the third section of GRE General test. The name of the section itself suggests that you will be assessed on analytical skills. You have 1 hour to complete this section which has 2 parts. Both these parts are some form of essay that will assess your writing abilities and skills.

In the GRE Essay section, you will be evaluated on your thought process in a critical situation, flow of thought, drafting of the solution and framing of sentences. A few minor spelling mistakes may be overlooked but what is important is to have a clear cut and precise essay. The essay is checked by an examiner and also a computer. You can score up to 6 points in this section.

The first part of the test involves solving or analyzing an issue. There are many GRE essay examples that will take you through a few of the issues that have appeared in the GRE Tests before. You may also solve a few issues yourself and ask your guide or companion to review those to get a clear idea on your performance. You have to write an essay presenting a general perception on the issue and then a method to solve the issue.

The next part is analyzing an argument. It is similar to the previous one but the matter is different. In this part you have to draft your GRE essay as per the instructions mentioned and follow all the guidelines. In this part you are expected to give a personal opinion and not a general one. Your analytical skills and ability to handle critical situations are judged here. Solving a few sample issues and arguments will give you a clearer picture and practice.
