Have you ever tried having a conversation with your friend and felt everything bouncing
off your head because the words your friend used was far beyond your understanding.
It’s absolutely normal and does happen often. The more words used by a person to
explain something, the less they know of the subject. The important rule however
in a reading comprehension is -when you try making sentences with easy and popular
words; you force yourself to understand it. A better way of understanding this would
be - Explaining something to your brother or sister where you would use simple and
short sentences. This would make you come to the ultimate meaning.
However at the GMAT test level you could understand a reading comprehension as-for
instance at the end of every paragraph think about your troublesome brother or sister
who keeps pulling your t-shirt...what would this probably mean? The more you concentrate
on more confused and difficult words; the better would be your understanding towards
a reading comprehension. There are three ways you could try dealing with your reading
comprehension, firstly by breaking it up so as to get a better idea. Secondly, you
should make your pen your best friend so that you could jot down important points
as you go through all paragraphs and thirdly make use of simple words as a substitute
for all buzzwords.
Few other ways of tackling reading comprehensions are by reading articles, formulating
and analyzing answers out of them. If you’re not sure where you could start off
from, you should consider reading newspaper articles. Secondly reading comprehensions
would consist of articles based on science, arts, et al. Hence if you’re an arts
student, make sure to read up on science articles as well. And thirdly get into
the habit of asking why is that the article emphasized on a certain thing or what
is this? You should try analyzing and questioning the articles you read, it would
only give you a better conclusion to your answer.
Reading comprehensions are easy if you only practice and only practice, so make
sure to practice!
